About

Hi! Welcome to Pleasant Sims!

My name is Cindy, and I tell stories. Games are my medium.

I’ve always loved gaming. I was given my first personal computer as a Christmas gift from my parents way back in 1997. I soon began playing every PC game I could get my hands on.

I started with the classics – Baldur’s Gate, Anno 1602 AD, Age of Empires – anything that would allow me to create or play a story. In the early 2000s, I moved on to games like RPG Maker and Roller Coaster Tycoon. I loved to build my own little worlds and make up my own adventures.

When I found The Sims series, I was hooked. There’s something so compelling about controlling the lives of these simulated pixel people. As I grew older, it was the ability to tell stories that kept me coming back to my favorite games.

Today, The Sims 2 remains one of my favorite games of all time, and I never tire of playing it. No other game compares in terms of creative control and storytelling ability. I will always be a story-teller at heart. I use games as a creative outlet, and I love sharing my creations with you!

YouTube

I publish Sims videos on my Youtube Channel where I currently have over 60,000 subscribers (and growing)! In June 2020, I quit my job to become a full-time content creator on Youtube and Twitch. Thanks to all my amazing subscribers for making this possible!

Live Streams

I currently stream on Twitch three times a week. In my live streams, I play Strangetown and my own custom worlds. You can see my current video and live stream schedule here

Personal Stuff

If you’re interested in me personally, here are some facts for you!

I’m married and in my late thirties. I’m originally from the Southern United states, but I moved to the Midwest about seven years ago. I spend most of my time with my husband and two lovely dogs – Bella and Mortimer.

Yep, I named my dogs after The Goths. I’m dedicated.

My two dogs, Bella and Morty.
My two dogs, Bella and Morty.

We recently added a new member to our family – our cat named Lazlo.

I do have other hobbies besides The Sims. I love reading – mostly Fantasy novels. My favorite authors are Robin Hobb and Mark Lawrence. I try to read every day unless I’m sick or on vacation.

I also love music. Going to live shows is one of my favorite things in the world. My favorite band is (currently) The Midnight, but I enjoy a wide range of music from 80’s new wave to Appalachian folk to post-rock.

If I were a Sim, I would be a Pleasure Sim with a secondary Knowledge aspiration. My one true hobby would be Games.

PCOS

I have recently spoken about my PCOS diagnosis publicly and my struggle with hair loss, infertility, and many other symptoms of this chronic illness. PCOS stands for polycystic ovarian syndrome. It’s a condition that causes higher than normal male hormones (androgens) in women.

I used to wear wigs to hide my hair loss, but I don’t any longer. You can hear more about my struggle in this video

I also have a second Youtube channel all about body positivity, intuitive eating, PCOS, and my infertility journey. Check out Life Plus Cindy

  1. Hi Cindy! I just wanted to let you know that you’re awesome! Do you have any background in computers, graphics, electronics, etc? You are so great with computers. Love your blog and videos!

    • Hi Sarah! I don’t have any formal training besides some basic classes I took in college. But I have loved and used computers since I got my first one in 1997! I’ve always loved modding and gaming, so I’ve just learned a lot over the years through trial and error. Thanks so much for stopping by! 🙂

    • Hi! Yes, I’ve played (and own) both of these games. TS3 is fun in it’s own way, but I find the Sims to be…well, ugly. It doesn’t suit my rotational playstyle, but I’ve had fun playing challenges from time to time. You can read more about my thoughts on TS4 on my FAQs page here: https://pleasantsims.com/faqs/ Thanks for asking! 🙂

  4. Hey,

I appreciate your blog and your Youtube channel and I enjoyed watching your LP’s. It seems that you took a game that was older, and loved by many and showed it to other people so they see for themselves how not everything has to be bland as in the Sims 4.

However, there is something off about the Sims 2 and 3. It seems that you can’t just play one hour and tend to your day-to-day life. The game is asking a lot of your time by default.

It also stresses out one’s brain because there’s so much stuff going on at once. That sounds your brain into overload and it’s called cognitive hyperactivity.
And that leads to anxiety, stress, panic attacks, insomnia, getting testy with your loved ones. All of a sudden that game that’s supposed to be fun seems like WORK because you have to give so much of your time, energy, and attention, and you don’t get very much in return.

TS3 *seems* a bit easier to play but so much bad stuff has happened karmically in the community — The Queen’s death, Lifesimmer having a nervous breakdown, AshleyBB quitting and calling its community toxic.

And real talk, I never found The Sims to be spiritually nourishing. There were games that I’d play and feel fulfilled afterwards and relaxed, but playing the Sims always made me feel more stressed and worried and isolated and it would often lead me to burn out.

All of that is not to say I hate the game but that’s the problem, isn’t it? It’s easy to like a game and not realize how much you’re putting in, and how little you’re getting out, and how you’re trading your mental health (and your life and your time) for a game.

Honestly, I’m just weirded out by how much bad vibes I’ve felt on forums and bad things that happened to people that played the Sims 2 and 3. People slip into depression and have a nervous breakdown while playing a game that’s supposed to uplift them. Something’s wrong.

Anyway, just my 2 cents and my observations. The Sims 2 never changed my life. I got it, but I had school, real friends, amazing experiences and I don’t think I would have experienced any of that if I got hooked on it. Playing both TS2 and TS3 makes me feel dread.

Just offering a different take on the game, not making a dig at you – feel free to edit this comment out if it doesn’t work with your website/brand.

    • Hi Liz. Thanks for your comment. I did edit out the part where you referenced another Simmmer. I’m sure you can see why.
I understand what you’re saying, but in my opinion, it’s not the game itself that causes these problems. It’s the pressure put on players/creators by the community. I have pretty much removed myself from the Simming community outside of my website because of this very thing (including my Youtube channel). I’ve had numerous “breakdowns” and episodes of burnout because of the enormous pressure to create more and more Sims content at the expense of my health and real life relationships. When I play the game alone without sharing, it relaxes me and becomes a hobby again – a positive thing in my life. So that’s what I’m doing now.
I am really sorry you don’t enjoy the game anymore. I still do and play it regularly – but now it’s something I do for myself and not for others. Thank you for stopping by. 🙂

  5. Yo!

So, I was wondering if there is any way to convert items such as clothing or hair from the sims 4 to the sims 2 since I have some really cool stuff that I’d like to have on both.

  6. Glad to see the latest post, I love your stories and all the tips you give out. Hope you are much better. I again keep coming back to playing the sims as it is has been an outlet for me the past thirty years. Do not let anybody get to you, I have come to the realization it does not matter what others think about what you do as long as you are happy with yourself. Looking forward to playing with Sims 2 again, I did load it following or your tips, but playing Sims 3 still most of the time as I can play it for shorter times. Working from home at this time and for another two weeks, and I actually like it. I am not alone I have five men in my house. Hope to see you soon keep safe.

    • Thank you! That’s very kind of you to say, and I agree with you! I LOVE working from home. I’ve been doing it for the past two years and I never want to go back to an office. Stay safe too! 🙂

    • Hi there! I don’t know if I’ll post again on Pleasant Plays. Right now, I have no plans to. I haven’t played FF14 for over a year, but I will mostly likely return to it eventually. 🙂

  8. Hi Cindy, I’m so happy to finally have a TS3 Pleasantview I can play in! So much nostalgia kicking it… Thanks for doing this! I have a suggestion too, maybe you can create some lore-friendly extra lots (EP specific lots like fire station, festival grounds, bars etc) and new houses that could fit the Pleasantview feel and upload them separately on your site so those with the proper EPs can install and place them. TS3 versions of the TS2 downtown would be cool to have as well. Of course all is up to you, just wanted to suggest! Thanks again for the hard work 🙂

    Reply
    • Hi! So glad you like the world! Some extra lots will be released in the future. I’m mostly creating them as I need them in my own gameplay. I tend to use the Sunset Valley Festival Grounds and the Ambitions lots for Firehouse, Salon, etc. because they’re already done! But who knows? I may remake some of them in the future. Thanks for stopping by!

  9. Hey Cindy,

I was new to your channel a couple of weeks ago when I was looking for some tips on TS2. However, since then I have been ADDICTED to your TS3 LP and have started playing in your Pleasantview save! It has been awesome! My current household is Cassandra Dreamer (formerly known as Lothario and Goth), her husband Dirk (like your LP) Her teenagers Bella and Max (with Don Lothario) and a toddler with Dirk. I would really love if you had a blog where your followers could post their stories? If that’s possible! If not, I may post further updates on this thread (if that’s okay).

    • Oops! Sorry for the late reply! Your comment was lost in the shuffle some how. I’m so happy that you like the new LP and the new world! I have considered creating a forum for users to share, but I just don’t have the time to moderate it unfortunately. But I would love to hear more about your game! Feel free to comment here or on my Youtube channel! 🙂

  11. Are you in Colorado? I noticed that your mailing address is in Colo Springs and your Twitch times are in Mountain Time. I’m originally from the Southern United State (Kentucky) and could immediately recognize your accent as likely a Southern accent but maybe not deep south. I live in Colorado, Parker in Douglas County with my husband. I am in love your content and channel. You have, without a doubt, the best Sims 2 content around. Please, please keep up the good work. I started playing the Sims in 2003 and the Sims 2 when it first came out – through the final Apartment Life updates. I played The Sims 3 sporadically through college and only started The Sims 4 with the Island Living x-pack, but The Sims 2 is still by far my favorite iteration. I always had a problem with The Sims 3 and Sims 4. It felt like I was just going “through the motions” but never expressing my full creativity. Your content has inspired me to download TS2 again and I’ve been having so much fun.
Sorry for the rambling comment, but I am just so impressed with your content. The fact that you use a play chart is so cool. I always used a play chart/spreadsheet for my TS2 ‘hoods.

    • Hi Tyler! I don’t like giving out my specific location for safety reasons, but I live near the Rocky Mountains. 🙂 I am originally from the “Upper South” and my dialect is considered “Southern Interior Highland.” I have always lived near or in the mountains. Now, my original accent is a bit watered down by living in the midwest (which I don’t like), but what can you do?
I’m so glad you’re enjoying my content. I know just what you mean about The Sims 3 and 4 – it just doesn’t feel the same and you can’t express your creativity the same way through those games.
Thank you for stopping by and happy Simmming!

I just wanted to say that you are an extremely sweet person and I love your dedication to the Sims 2. Also, do you work as a teacher? Because you have such a beautiful way of telling stories and explaining how to do certain things in the game (very detailed and step by step) I just can’t see you having another job (besides being a streamer/youtuber). If you don’t then you should certainly do!! You seem to be that kind of person that everyone loves. Sending hugs from Romania❤️❤️

  17. I just wanted to say I stumbled on your videos yesterday and they took me back. I’ve played every sims game and I was so nice to know someone out there shared the same feelings about the sims 2/3. I really want to like the Sims 4 but I still feel like its so shallow but alas as I’ve switched from PC to Mac the older games don’t run very well at all, so TYSM for your content I especially loved you showing the scripted events and OFB in the Sims 2.

    • Hi Dylan! Thank you! And yes, I feel the same way about The Sims 4. I keep trying to make it work, but it’s just a shallow, soulless game with hope of redemption at this point.

  18. Hi Cindy! Have you ever played the console version of the sims 2 (psp/ds) ? They are quite different from the pc sims 2 game as they offer a different (equally as interesitng!) story line and the story takes place in a brand new area of the sims 2 strangetown. I highly recommend you to check out the sims 2 for psp, it’s my childhood memory and it is very fun to play. Also, if you are interested, you can check out chrisnewbie on Tumblr, he remakes the console version of strangetown in the pc game and I’ve been having so much fun playing with his version of strangetown

  22. Hi Cindy, I wanted to tell you that I really love all of your videos. You have made me miss Sims 2 so much but I am very worried that my laptop can’t handle so I am playing your Pleasantview for Sims 3. I am having so much fun reliving Sims 2. I started playing with Sims 1 but 2 will always be my favorite for the lore and of course all of the nostalgia. I got back into the Sims because I have to self isolate until all of this is over as I am extremely immune compromised. Sims has helped me with my depression and anxiety so much during this time and so have you and a few other creators. I wanted to thank you for making things better. I do play Sims 4 but I do it with all the mods for more depth. I get why you are not a huge fan though! Have a wonderful day!

    • Hi Persephone! So glad you’re enjoying Sims 3! To be honest, if your laptop can handle Sims 3 it should have NO problem running Sims 2. But you will have to apply the 4Gb patch and use graphics rules maker. Either way, I’m glad you’re having fun and I wish you well until your isolation is over.

  23. Hi!

I really love your videos and commitment for the sims games👍😃 When I saw you get your first computer 1997 I realise you must bee 30+? Or maybe you just was very young in the days?

Do you know what to do when you cant open up ts2bodyshop? I got w10 and have made it worked but cannot still open bodyshop, it just crashes 🙄
And I also wonder why the colours and necklesses doesnt lockes up when your pets get promoted (as they supose to)? Do you know why and if that the case what to do?

    Reply
    • Hi! Yes, I am in my late 30s. I’m lucky to look much younger! Haha. I usually have to try several times to get body shop to open up. Try deleting your cache files in your Documents > EA Games > Sims 2 folder (accessory.cache and groups.cache). That will sometimes help! I have no idea about your third question, sorry! I almost never give my pets jobs.

  25. Hi Cindy 🙂
I’m highly in love with your 10/10 lvl of charisma, reviews and let’s play’s! I also have done so much tune for improving TS2 graphic and neighbourhoods thanks to your tutorials.
It’s breathtakingly that so many simmers still do stunning improving mods for TS2, like CleanUI or Story Progrssion, which gradually makes this game even better than third game.

Have you heard about the «Traits project» from PlumbBob ? They did traits from TS3 avaliable in TS2. What do you think about it, is it safe? I have not found youtube reviews about this mods as if it isn’t popular, and that’s strange – it may have so much potential.

    Reply
    • I haven’t ever tried it out myself, but yes it’s perfectly safe. The original mod itself only contains the traits as objects, but they don’t do anything gameplay wise. You have to download the individual mod for each trait to make them work, and I think that’s been confusing for a lot of people – probably why it isn’t more popular. It’s certainly why I’ve never bothered with it. But I might look into it someday!

  26. Hi Cindy! I’m a long time viewer of your youtube videos and streams (I subscribed on your first channel during the first season of your Pleasantview Let’s plays). I really love Sims 2 and 3 and I gave up on the Sims 4 a long time ago!
I started to watch your new Pleasantview video on youtube today about Angela Pleasant going to jail… You and the viewers who commented on this video, remember the whole story totally wrong: Lilith didn’t attack Angela, she was minding her own business (making out with Dirk!) when Angela was the one who attacked and Lilith just defended herself!
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6_Uwj1MWXI&ab_channel=PleasantSims, “The Dreamer Girls, Adoption Story”, the video was posted on the 19th October of 2019).
The people who commented on that video back then, told you what happened and you agreed that the fight was not Lilith’s fault but almost 2 years later everyone forgets what really happened and accuses poor Lilith again… I have a soft spot for Lilith and it makes me very sad when I see everyone being against her when she did nothing wrong in the specific situation and your video proves it, so please remember what you wrote in the comments back then and don’t punish Lilith for something that wasn’t her fault! I know that she is just a sim in a video-story and not a real person but I think that you can understand how easily, we who play this game for so many years (my love for the sims started from the Sims 3 on 2010 and on 2014 I started to play also the Sims 2), can get attached and be a bit overprotective of our favourite sims…
Anyways, keep up the good work and I hope someday I’ll be able to watch one of your streams live because I’m getting a bit jealous when I watch the videos on youtube, lol! These days I’ve been binge-watching the Strangetown streams and, even though Strangetown is not one my favourite premade hoods (my favourites are Pleasantview and Riverside) and I don’t play it often, you made me go back and play there again!

  27. Hi Cindy!
About a week ago I got sick of my incredibly messy downloads folder and followed your downloads template. Seriously, so much of it was gibberish. I lost a lot of CC I loved, but I’ll gain it back in no time – plus, I’m enjoying my game loading quicker haha.
Oh, and I also did a restart to my entire game. I know, severe, but I wanted a fresh start. I replaced each hood with clean templates and I plan to make each premade genetically correct.
I’m messaging you to ask about lot installation. I saw your video on how to install lots and I’ve done everything you said to do. The lots I’m trying to install are all CC-free and they go into my teleport folder as normal, but the names still turn to gibberish. Is there anything that can be done about that? I’ve set a challenge for myself to recognise everything that goes into my game and that includes lots.
Oh, and one more thing that’s been an ongoing issue is that none of my pets age! I thought that weeding out bad mods or CC would help, but nothing so far. I even ran hoodchecker to see what was up. I also thought doing a hard reset would help, but nothing changed. I’ve tested it in my burner hood after I’ve made all the changes from above and I’m really confused why none of my pets age – they are immortal!

If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Thank you in advance and keep up your outstanding content. Sending love from the UK!

    Reply
    • Hi! The lots in your teleport folder will always be a string of letters/numbers, but once you start the game, they will move into your lot catalog and be given a number. You can’t change that, but you shouldn’t need to.

If you mean there’s still gibberish in your downloads folder, that means there is CC still attached to the lot. Make sure you un-check anything except the lot itself in clean installer. Sometimes even lots that people think are CC-free still have CC attached to them. That’s the good thing about clean installer!

Pets not aging sounds like a mod conflict to me. I would take all mods/cc out of your game, start a brand new ‘hood with NO cc. Then see if your pets age. If they do, you’ll have to use the 50% method to find the conflict. https://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Finding_Problem_Custom_Content#The_50.25_Method

      Hope that helps some!
