Do you need a way to calculate your Sim’s secondary aspiration in The Sims 2? This calculator was created by one of my subscribers (thank you Shirley), and it uses the Sim’s interests to calculate their secondary aspiration.
I feel it’s much more realistic than randomly rolling, which was my previous method.
There is a link to this calculator deep in my gameplay rules page. But since it’s one of my most popular downloads and I get loads of questions about it, I thought it deserved it’s own post.
There are two different versions – the original by Shirley and another that includes the Grilled Cheese Aspiration (download either or both below).
Original Secondary Aspiration Calculator
This version includes all six of the original aspirations – Family, Fortune, Knowledge, Popularity, Romance, and Pleasure (see image above).
To use, enter the number of points that your Sim has in each of the interest categories.
In the image above, Brandi has 2 points in Politics, so you would enter the number 2 in the Politics box, etc. After you enter all the points, the calculator will display the results in the gray box on the right. The aspiration with the highest number is your Sim’s new aspiration.
In the example above, I’ve entered all of Brandi’s points into the calculator. The highest number calculated is 25 in Romance – so Brandi will be given a secondary Romance Aspiration. That’s all there is to it!

Secondary Aspiration Calculator with Grilled Cheese
By popular request, I’ve added the Grilled Cheese aspiration to the calculator in this second version. Of course, it also includes all of the original six aspirations.
Now Sims with a high interest in Food, Entertainment, and Toys also have the chance of becoming Grilled Cheese Sims! I don’t personally play with this aspiration, but I know a lot ofย you do – so here it is.
Instructions for use are the same. Simply enter the number of points for each interest category and the calculator does the rest.

FAQs
Q. I don’t have Excel. How can I use the spreadsheets?
A. Either save a copy to your Google Drive and use with Google Sheets or use a free program like Open Office to read and edit Excel files.
Q. What if the highest number calculated is my Sim’s Primary Aspiration?
A. Choose the next highest number as the secondary.
Q. There’s a tie! My Sim got the same number in more than one aspiration. What do I do?
A. In the event of a tie, I go to Random.org and roll a number between 1-100. If the result is 50 or below, I choose the first aspiration on the list. If the result is 51 or above, I choose the second aspiration on the list.
Q. Okay, but what do I do if my Sim gets the same number in THREE aspirations? (I’ve had this happen exactly once.)
A. First make sure one of them isn’t the Sim’s primary aspiration. That eliminates one and you can use the “tie breaker” method above. If not, roll a number between 1-100 and use this method:
- 1 – 33: First aspiration in the list
- 34 – 65: Second aspiration in the list
- 66 – 100: Third aspiration in the list
This is a great idea and the spreadsheet is super helpful! A tip for random.org: you can just put in 1-3 and it will randomly give you 1, 2 or 3, no need to worry about ranges that way. ๐
Hi Cindy,
I can’t seem to open the file in google sheets, keeps saying view only, tried everything,
Hi Alison! You need to make a copy of the sheet to your own Google Drive. Go to File > Make a Copy and then it will prompt you to name and save to your own drive.
Personally if I somehow got a tie between 3 aspirations that aren’t their primary aspiration, I would just roll between 1-99. I know a difference of 1 out of 100 in the third one’s favor isn’t much, but I would anyway.
Hi Cindy!
Do you happen to know if there is a pre-made list of all the secondary aspirations for townies from Pleasantview or Strangetown and where I could find it? Love your Youtube channel x
No, sorry! I don’t think anyone has ever made a list of secondary aspirations for townies. At least not that I know of. I doubt you could even find that for the playables, much less townies. That would be a good idea for a post, though. I might try to make one for you soon!
